I just want to take a moment to admonish Dallas' recent weather patterns.
What in the world? Early last week, I took my guitar and a bottle of Dr. Pepper down to the pond for a late-night jam under the stars. It felt amazing—lying on my back against the cool grass, plucking my guitar to my favorite songs, and staring up at the brilliant night sky—as brilliant as it can be in Dallas. As I gazed up at the little stars I noticed a breeze beginning to develop. A couple of clouds passed overhead, and then a couple more. They kept coming and coming until they covered the entire sky. When the next day came around, the temperature had plummeted and the streets were covered in ice. Classes were canceled and I found myself with tons of free time to do whatever I wanted (most of which was spent knocking out assignments).
While a little break was nice, it came with a spoonful of disappointment. Before the ice storm, I was scheduled to be in Fayetteville, Arkansas over the weekend to shoot an interview with Flatland Calvary preceding their concert. I was super excited for the project because it was a chance for me to continue moving into the video world while also keeping up with my brand of shooting concerts. Unfortunately, I couldn't make the journey with the streets so icy. I was literally frozen in place. It was yet another setback in my journey of hopefully making a career out of media.
While it sucked not going to Arkansas, I remain confident that it was for a reason. Perhaps I wasn't ready for such a huge shoot, or maybe God is giving me a little more time to get myself figured out before I take bigger steps. Whatever the reason, I know that there is still a mountain of potential in front of me that I cannot wait to climb.
"Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take." -Proverbs 3:5-6
This verse is quoted often, but I think it has particular significance for us when we genuinely don't understand what in the world is going on. There is so much going on in the world today—like seriously crazy things—that my missing one concert does not seem like a big deal. However, I am thankful that God knows each of us individually and chooses to know our hearts. He lovingly meets each one of us where we are and invites us to share our troubles and questions with him. No matter how big other events are in the world, he has time for every "small" concern we have. In 1 Thessalonians 5, Paul writes to the church and instructs them to pray without ceasing. This command is something that has resonated with me recently as I am seeking to worship God through creating media.
I pray that God allows me to reflect his story in all of the amazing stories that I have the opportunity to tell and that I will not boast in my natural ability, but instead in the redemption I have received from Christ.
Although the disappointment of a missed opportunity is still fresh, I am confident in God's ultimate plan for my life. I continue to be blessed with opportunities and I am so thankful for those of you who continue to support me with encouragement. Also, I am super excited to announce that I will be shooting for Grady Spencer and the Work this upcoming Friday at the Sons of Herman Hall in Dallas!
Have a fantastic week! A new video will be up on YouTube next Tuesday!
